Tainui Waka Primary Schools Kapa Haka

Five weeks of non-stop practicing, five weeks of hard determination and five weeks of a beautiful campaign. Both our Kura Teina and Kura Waenga Kapa Haka teams worked extremely hard to compete in the Tainui Waka Primary Schools Kapa Haka Competition that was held 14th November in Tokoroa at the South Waikato Sports and Events Centre.

The teams had numerous in-school/after school practices and noho to perform a 25 minute bracket that was exceptional. All the tauira involved stepped up and made this campaign an enjoyable one for us all.

Our Kura Waenga placed 5th overall and our Kura Teina 7th, just missing out in one of the top 4 positions to represent Tainui Waka in next years’ National Whakataetae in Nelson.

Everyone involved worked hard in this campaign and our tamariki left it all out on the stage. We could not have asked for anything more from them as they stood with pride for themselves, our kura, their whānau, their hapū and our iwi of Raukawa.

We will come back stronger and we will continue to hold our heads up high.

To the whānau who assisted in this campaign, we applaud you and thank you for the awhi.

Finally, we would like to wish the four Kura who will represent Tainui Waka next year the best of luck in your National Campaign.

Ngā mihi ngā Kaiako o Te Kura.
